I have 62 ELL students. They are passionate and bright! The school is located in a low income area in Dallas, Texas, and it is surprising that the culture of the student body at that particular school is amazing! Although many of them are disadvantaged, the students work hard during the day and at their homes. Many have difficulties at home, but during the school time they leave that behind and they focus on their classwork. I have noticed that they really enjoy reading together. I suspect this is because the area we are located in is low income, their parents have to work continuously to sustain them, and they have limited time with their children. Most of my students have never had someone read to them at home. If they continue reading we could make an impact! Almost all of my students will be first generation college graduates. I believe that each and every single one of them has major potential and drive to fulfill their dreams, and reading is a key step to their future.
