My rural 5th-8th grade Band, CHoir and Study Hall students meet daily for 50 minutes to rehearse for concerts, contests and Pep Band in support of our basketball team. We meet in a multi-purpose building that also houses our basketball arena.
My school has stringent academic, attendance and behavioral expectations that have to be maintained in order to attend our graduation ceremony and end of the year Success Trip. My students are busy with regular curricular activities and many have been placed in advanced classes and have chosen to take Band as an elective.
I want to provide my students with an opportunity to utilize their band rehearsal time to increase musicality as an ensemble, but also encourage personal growth as a solo musician.
These students enjoy making music together in support of their peer athletic groups, but are also capable and eager to reach their fullest potential of individual musicianship.
