According to the CA Department of Education, flexible learning environments are the perfect way to foster growth in 21st century classrooms. Flexible learning environments are easily adaptable for all types of learning style profiles.
In Room 2 at VVHS specifically, this type of environment is ideal for the creative community we are trying to establish. In this room students need to feel comfortable taking creative risks, and frequently work collaboratively to achieve goals.
Through this project, I am seeking new furniture for my classroom. Specifically furniture that will offer non-traditional types of seating. I am hoping to get several high top tables and stools. In addition to this, three coffee tables, bean bags, a futon and two chairs. I want to turn my classroom into a setting where students feel relaxed, comfortable, and creative. With the items requested and some additional that I hope to be able to fund on my own, I will create six- eight different seating options and groups in my classroom. Students will be able to sit in the type of setting that is most comfortable for them. I will maintain a few traditional seating areas for students who thrive in a standard classroom set up.
Room two is students home away from home, and the more at peace they feel when entering this room, the more successful they will be leaving it.
