We are asking for 20 copies of "No Fear Shakespeare: A Midsummer Night's Dream" because my students feel as if they are ready to tackle Shakespeare. They believe that they are capable of understanding the text, but more importantly they want to re-write Shakespeare to be culturally relevant to them.
The most important part of this project is the showing my students' how they can use their voices and how they have interesting stories to tell and share. In order to help highlight the power of voice, we would like a classroom set of "Trail of Lightening" which is written with Dine' characters. The author is Ohkay Owingeh. I want my students to see a highly successful author who is like them writing about people like them. This text will allow them to see how important their voices are and how they have stories important and interesting stories to tell.
