My students require extra support on a daily basis to address their basic needs before their academic needs can be met. With your help, I am trying to create a sensory sensitive classroom. First, I plan to update my calm down place in the classroom with fabric to help ease the sight of the blank white walls. That way, when students need a safe place, they are surrounded by colors and comfort. Next, I plan to fix the fluorescent lights! With the use of light filters, it will help keep the classroom in a calmer environment to help students with sensory regulation. Last, I plan to tackle flexible seating in the classroom to promote choices, comfort, and sensory input/output.
Many of my students have physical and sensory needs that must be met before they can begin learning. To help with this, I plan to implement flexible seating. This will create choices for students that can best meet their learning style by providing them with a variety of areas to complete classroom work. Having choices of a workspace is huge win for the kiddos! They are much more excited, and take ownership in their workspace. I have also included a chewable necklace for a kiddo that needs help with an alternative and safer sensory regulation.
On behalf of my students and their families, thank you for considering a donation to my classroom project that will meet the needs of my students on a daily basis!
