The elementary school we are located in is designed to give educational services to students of low-income families. Therefore, a lot of my students do not have access to books and other materials needed to provide a more complete home-based educational environment. In fact, for many of my students, the materials and instruction they are provided at school is the only time they spend in an environment that gives them the motivation they require to further their learning. The students I serve ranges in age from 5 to 11, and are located in grades K-5. They are very bright individuals who enjoy learning despite their disabilities. However, the majority of these students have a ruling of intellectual disability, and have difficulty reading. Currently, our classroom does not have any grade or age appropriate reading materials that will help or motivate them to enhance their reading skills. I believe this can be rectified through providing the books and listening program I have requested.
