Students can use recess time to exercise their bodies as well as their minds. Recess can be an opportunity for kindergartners to extend what is learned in the classroom. The items I have selected allow students to practice critical thinking skills as well as extending math lessons in counting, addition, and subtraction.
We have up to 120 children that use our playground and our equipment daily. The "Jumbo 4 to Score" will be a great game of strategy; students will enjoy exercising their minds as well as their hand/eye coordination and gross motor skills. Giant Jenga will allow them to understand basic building and structural engineering, part of the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) based learning. In math lessons, we often use dominoes and dice to create addition and subtraction problems. The giant dominoes and dice allow the students to take what we have learned in class and create their own math problems outside. Recess can be a time for learning as well as playing--learning through play is the best combination!
