My students are an incredibly diverse group comprised of many backgrounds and religions. Over the past two years at Lawrence, I have had students and families from over 30 different countries as part of our classes.
Because so many of my students are ELL, literacy skills are highly important. We are at a crucial point in their education where mitigating past literacy deficiencies become more difficult as they progress through our education system.
I currently have 120 students that come into my room for classes, with an additional 80 or so that come in and out of my room for clubs that I host. These students also have unfettered access to my classroom library. All in all, my library reaches over 200 students a year. I currently have 4 bookshelves with three shelves each loaded with books. Many are falling apart and are not the most engaging of texts. My students have been asking for new books, so here we are!
