My students come from one of the lowest income regions of New York City. School supplies are difficult for families in middle class neighborhoods to acquire and for the students in my school, it is one more roadblock on the path to equitable education.
Since starting at my school, I have ensured that students my students have the supplies they need for each school year, but this year I'm shifting to binders and it is getting more costly. My students need organization skills for high school and college readiness: these supplies will give them the tools they need now and later.
Furthermore, I engage my students in project base learning and reading projects throughout the school year. By having book bins, binders, and dividers, they will be able to thoroughly engage in autonomous learning and have control over their organization.
