I have 24 students in my very active class. More than half of my students are reading below grade level and several of them are reading far below grade level, at the level of a kinderg锟絩tner. I have one student who just joined my class and he does not speak a word of English. It has been tough trying to communicate with him, but thankfully I have a few wonderful students who have been excellent translators for me. My students are very hard working and are trying so hard in class every day.
My school is a Title I school in a very low income area (our school is at over 90% free and reduced lunch). I know many of my students do not have it easy at home. but they show up to school every day with a smile on ready and eager to learn.
