My 33 students are four turning five. They vary in maturity, intelligence, and background. They are inquisitive, curious, hilarious, and kind. We are in California at a public school, which like every other school in the nation suffered from a drastically reduced budget...$50 a year for all our classroom supplies leaving nothing left for the purchase of games or puzzles. We make our own games, we play games that don't require materials, but my students would LOVE to play classic games and work as a team to complete floor puzzles. Kids need to learn to play. Play is one of the most effective tools for keeping relationships fresh and exciting. Playing together for the fun of it brings joy, vitality, and resilience to relationships. Play can also heal resentments, disagreements, and hurts. Through regular play, we learn to trust one another and feel safe. Trust enables us to work together, open ourselves to intimacy, and try new things. We want to play. Please help us.
