Flexible seating is a way for my students to take charge of their learning and to be comfortable while doing so. My students have a hard time sitting still, so I began to look into safe and cozy ways for them to move while I am teaching. My students currently use a few scoop rocking chairs and seat cushions to help them comfortably engage in learning. I have one clip board in my room and I have at least half of my class that would love to lay on the floor and write, but I haven't had the resources to accommodate those needs.
By having various seating options in my room, it will give my students a feeling of comfort so that they will be able to learn. In my opinion, students will not truly begin learning from a teacher until there is trust and comfortability established. By making my room warm and inviting to all students, I will be helping them feel more comfortable with me as their teacher, so they are able to learn to the best of their ability.
Having an easel will allow me to teach from different areas of my room to best accommodate for the various learning styles of my students, no matter where they choose to sit. The tables will provide them with a writing surface, due to traditional desks being too high for the seats that are going to be in the classroom.
