Kindergarten truly is a garden that provides the opportunities to nourish the whole child. My students are just beginning to learn that they are independent people outside of their family unit. This is their first year being among their peers. After living through the pandemic, their social inexperience is more apparent than ever. I am one of their guides. However, no curriculum exists to address their non-academic needs.
These books will cultivate character in my classroom. I will use these picture books to address both the Common Core Standards for literature and writing while focusing on social emotional topics throughout the year. The topics include following directions, being a good listener, respecting personal space, using kind words, learning from mistakes, showing compassion, handling disappointment, expressing feelings, using good manners, making safe choices, and showing integrity. This is an investment that will endure! The students will rely on these skills to navigate throughout life. Please help the students grow into positive forces in our community by choosing to fund our children's literature collection revolving around behavior and character.
