While we do not currently have any LEGO in our classroom art studio, we have been building and making architectural models using paper, cardboard, and other recycled materials. We already study many of the tall towers and skyscrapers throughout the world, as part of our architecture/engineering unit.
My students are also avid about the LEGO MASTERS show, and we compare notes on the builds as each episode is aired weekly. I would love to have basic building kits, which I can then add to during subsequent years, so that my learners can begin to dream bigger. Many of them unfortunately have not had the opportunity to own their own sets of LEGO due to financial circumstances and frequent housing transitions. LEGO is something they dream of, and the show opens up the possibility of careers in art, design, architecture and engineering. I have used LEGO to teach STEAM at previous schools and hope to bring some middle school magic to my art studio through your generous donations.
