Our school is in an urban district. We are one of the few schools in our district that are able to demonstrate proficiency on state testing standards due to our dedicated teaching and support staff. Our school like many is suffering the effects of the downturn in the economy. We may even lose teachers due to cut backs in state aid. In this economic climate, teachers continue to reach in their own pockets to buy supply items that our students need to achieve academically. A large item such as replacing a laminator seems like the impossible dream, as state funding for such things is almost non-existent right now.
