I am the Secondary Music Teacher for Colorado Springs District 11's Spark Online Academy. My classroom is a student-centered and problem based learning environment. Students learn how to compose their own music, as well as how to perform, understand and evaluate music that already exists.
Music learning should be:
Technology-based, making music instrument, composing and production skills accessible to all;
Process-focused, drawing out real world creative skills and understanding of music theory, musicianship and culture;
Community-connected, through strong parental involvement, collaborations with music and technology professionals, community outreach and extended hours music program.
