My students come from a high poverty community and attend a high school with an infamous reputation for its gang and drug influence, as well as its poorly neglected campus. My dancers have maintained being consistently versatile in doing a good job in my class as well as keeping up with what they do outside of my classroom (which include AP and honors courses, sports, clubs, etc). The majority of these dancers have not received any dance lessons nor outside instruction before enrolling into my class. Yet we have had individuals who have received dance scholarships because of their noticeable skills. In order to receive this type of attention from colleges, my students have outshone other applicants who have had years ahead in dance instruction (in and out of what their schools would normally offer). My students have continued to make do with what they have and with that said, they participated in the annual 2009 Aragon Dance Competition and returned home with a 1st place ranking
