My students are awesome! I have 20 special needs students, but I consider them to be exceptional students. They love to learn and are excelling with our reading programs! Parents are amazed and even the kids tell me "I read that all by myself!"(5-6 sight word based books). These students are faced with more challenges in a day than we are faced with in a year. Most have limited verbal skills, so they sign or use a voice output device. Every child is making progress and making it at their own rate! Our students love to read or have story books read to them. The students would love to have a reading center where they can listen to a story. Students with Autism, need tactile letters to help promote correct letter formation. Sensory items in our classroom is a must! They promote and enhance learning. The students retain what they learn when it is paired with sensory items.
