My special needs students range from Autistic to Specific Learning Disabilities. These children encounter various medical conditions as well as experience physical and/or emotional abuse. Despite these obstacles, many students are eager to learn. The school in which I teach, is a Title 1 middle school in rural Alabama. Just to give you glimpse of the county, majority of the families here are classified as poverty level persons. Many do not have the means to provide the basic needs for their children. The school building itself is not conducive for learning. We have rooms without air and heat, inadequate plumbing, bulking floors, etc. With conditions as such, the school board is utilizing what monetary sources it has to address the building issues. There is no room in the budget to purchase technological tools. I have taken several college courses on educational technology and would love to implement what I have learned.
