In an attempt to close the achievement gap for our 8th grade learners, we have developed a reading intervention course to target our students who demonstrate the greatest need. 92% of our students identify as Latino, 3% as Black, 2% as Asian and 2% as White. 85% of our students qualify for free and reduced lunch and most of our students are learning English as a second language. Most of our students have struggled academically and have not experienced academic success. Our goal is to instill a love of reading before they begin their high school adventures.
