Research shows that sensory play builds nerve connections in the brain's pathways, which lead to the child's ability to complete more complex learning tasks.
Sensory play supports language development, cognitive growth, fine and gross motor skills, problem solving skills, and social interaction. The resources I chose for my project will help my students with their sensory needs. The kinetic sand, snow, water beads, kinetic rock, play-dough and corresponding toys will be available to students during our sensory play time providing them with the opportunity to manipulate and mold a variety of textures. I have also included various tools such as the therapy putty and stress balls which will help students decompress during overwhelming situations. I selected a variety of fidgets (such as the tangles and fidget cube) which will help students with Autism focus while instruction is taking place. Each resource serves a specific purpose to meet students' specific sensory needs.
