My class is full of highly engaged learners always asking why, how, and what makes that work? I have a class full of 4th graders who love to research, experiment, and test questions daily. But they have one huge obstacle. They do not have any resources available to them to have hands on experiences. My lessons are engaging, and they see videos daily on each topic, but watching another person perform an experiment, doesn't have the same effect as exploring it yourself. The children need opportunities to test theories out. To make mistakes and figure out what went wrong. This type of hands on experiences and science experiments, cause higher levels of learning. Not only will the students relate to the content, but they will absorb it and keep it internalized for life. These experiences are the missing link in my students. We need a magnet kit, Snap Circuits Jr and more. My students have technology at their fingertips, but technology cannot replace hands on learning.
