These kids are hard working and love to learn. Their preferred way, as is for most people, is hands on. In this picture students are exploring how diapers can possibly hold so much liquid. The compound is called sodium polyacrylate. We utilized tools of measurement and learned how to use these tools with accuracy.
I believe we all learn best through hands on activities and this is how I teach daily. In our classroom, I would like to provide my students a variety of tools and resources that provide hands on learning. Tools can provide students the necessary engagement to grow their confidence, connect their knowledge to real, everyday life events and build their skills for advanced mathematical concepts.
Long term, my hope is that my students will feel empowered to pursue STEM careers sometime in their future.
