I teach science to 8th grade students in Racine, WI. My students and I study chemistry, cellular biology, genetics, anatomy, and physiology.
Many of my students come from low income families and struggle to come to school with their basic needs met and rarely have supplies. As of 2015, 75% of students at my school participate in the free or reduced lunch program. My school's population is made up of approximately one third African American students, one third Hispanic student and one third Caucasian students. This diverse group of students includes students with differing abilities, family dynamics, and learning styles, but they never cease to amaze me with what they can accomplish when someone believes in them and gives them the tools for success.
