I get the privilege of teaching a culturally and linguistically diverse group of 4th grade students. Most come from low income households and are English Language Learners. Being a 4th grade student means preparing to be leaders of our school as they prepare for 5th grade. This age group also hones their critical thinking and investigation skills as they learn about California history in addition to increasingly complex mathematics, literacy, and science. This is a fun but important year in my students' lives and I aim to create a safe and fun space where they can express themselves, take risks, and develop as bilingual thinkers and doers.
