These chair pockets are essential to my students. These pockets are called the "garage" in my classroom. I explain to them that they must have a place to store their important things. They do not have to get out of the chair to get the needed items and put away their work. They have a place to park each item. This helps us cut back on wasted time and stay on task. Kindergarten is the first time students are in an educational environment and it is my responsibility to teach them these organizational skills. These organizational skills will carry over through my students' educational careers. I must teach them how to place paper in their work folder, how to place the folder in the pocket, and how to open and close the journals. Finally, I teach them how to place each item in the pocket orderly. Most of my students are clueless about how to be organized. These pockets or "garages" are a vital part of each and every day. If Kindergarten students are not organized, it will be like herding cats all year. I want to express my gratitude in advance for helping my Sweethearts be a success this year.
