The material I鈥檓 asking for will serve the students in multiple ways. Using the Fairy Tale Problem Solving STEM kits the students will get the opportunity to use their reading fluency, comprehension and critical thinking skills in order to resolve the solution to the problem. The students will be exposed to the readings in English, if there are no pictures provided on the instructions I will provide kid friendly picture instructions to facilitate comprehension. I will photograph or record myself performing the task.
As we are moving to Non-Fiction texts I will use the Building Kits to provide the students the opportunity to work with hands on activities as they read sequential and procedural text. The text will be presented in Spanish as I will translate the procedures to kid friendly instruction. The students will be exposed to science and mathematical content and they will be able to use their vocabulary in both languages in order to communicate as they are building the objects. To extend the learning the students will have the opportunity to use the I CanBuild It kit! to create their own object and they will write their own procedures for their peers to follow.
Having all these items will positively impact all my students. My students will get to work in cooperative groups and use their critical thinking skills in order to solve problems. They will also get to expand their vocabulary in both languages, English and Spanish, as they read and discuss the text with their peers. My students enjoy working with hands on activities so these kits will definitely allow them to reach their full potential as their are learning content.
