Having an iPad will help enhance my students' technological education. Currently, the only technology device in our classroom is a shared computer (between the teachers and the students). My students have a variety of developmental needs and an iPad will allow me to set individual goals based on their levels. I can download educational apps to enhance their skills in literacy, math, social skills and science. Digital books can be downloaded to enhance early reading skills. I could use the iPad to download apps for various math skills that would allow children at different developmental levels to gain new knowledge. Science experiments could be recorded and ideas researched as a team or individually using the iPad. It is also a great way to build social skills with a friend or with social skill building apps.
Providing low-income students with 21st century technology will help them get a head start on their future--- our future. It's an opportunity to provide low income children a chance to explore and enhance their learning as individuals and as teams. Technology is ultimately an investment into their future and we are helping them become prepared by introducing them to all of the educational possibilities of an iPad.
