Our border city stands out with two glaring factors, low economic status and high military population. My students are currently in kindergarten and have looped with me since they were in Pre-Kindergarten. This two year bonding process has given me insight into the needs of military families. All but 1 of my 19 students have one parent in the military. Most all of the families are far from their roots and support system. The school, and in particular, my class has become their extended family. An additional burden is that the majority of them are in a low economic range, prohibiting them from the high tech benefits that keep families connected.
