I am a first year teacher who wants to provide the best learning environment for my students. One of the ways I can do that is to provide each of my students with their own calculator. Currently my classroom has 14 working calculators for a class of 30 students, which may be increasing in the next year. It pains me every time my students have to take a test and I run out of calculators to pass out. My students have to hope that another student finishes their test early so they have a chance to use a calculator.
Students should not be held back from learning the current material because they have trouble multiplying two numbers together. As someone enthusiastic about math, I know that it is crucial for my students to have a strong grasp of basic computation. However, many students come to my class with low skills and need additional support. Calculators will help my students learn the basic computation they need and help them to not fall further behind in their learning.
