All students want to learn to play the drums at least once in their lives. Our class only has a few playing the drums at a time right now because of the lack of materials. In class, the hand drums will provide the opportunity for the kids to play in the classroom in an ensemble setting. This helps them with the basic idea of steady beat in the songs and it also helps to build the self-esteem that they need when asked to play alone. First and foremost, it will give all students a chance to play drums in class while reinforcing basic musical knowledge learned throughout the year.
The hand drums will help students learn more about improvisation, rhythmic composition, and performing in an ensemble setting. These drums and other percussion will also give these students the opportunity to take the time to learn how to play individually and together as a drum ensemble. Using the hand drums, claves, and other instruments already found in the classroom, we could create a unique drum ensemble experience for the students to participate in.
