I am requesting 18 books for my classroom library. These books cover important social emotional learning topics. With this donation, we will gain access to a variety of diverse literature that will provide real world lessons on character traits essential for 9 and 10 year olds. These books will be used as class read alouds to provide an anchor for class discussion topics such as self-awareness, goal setting, personal responsibility, empathy, and relationship skills.
School isn't just about learning math and science; school is also about social development. Our library will have authentic, literature rich examples of protagonists encountering social obstacles like bullying, injustice, learning disabilities, etc. Our 5th graders will read, discuss, and respond to these themes. Students will also be provided the opportunity to share learning with younger students at our school. We will be preparing students to encounter real life experience while practicing literature and reading standards!
