I have a class of 20 TK/K students, and share a building with 2 other classes of Kindergarten students. Together we have over 65 students in the cohort. My students and their families live in one of the lowest income communities in the area. There are many different home languages represented and most of my students have never been to school or preschool before. There is a high rate of crime, homelessness, and transience effecting the community, not to mention the lingering threat of gentrification and displacement.
My students are a happy and resilient bunch! They come to school everyday with smiles on their faces, excited to find out what we will do for the day.
