The learners in schools today learn differently than they did several years ago. They have been engulfed into a fast paced society where technology is their main form of learning and entertainment. I want my classroom to help reinforce the way my students learn, and flexible seating will help do that.
Flexible seating is based on research and best practices for kids. It helps create a classroom environment that is conducive to open collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking. Studies suggest that children who participate in short bouts of physical activity within the classroom have more on-task behavior, with the best improvement seen in students who are the least on-task. The flexible seating options I have chosen for my students allow for them to be physically active in the classroom, while keeping their brains focused on the task at hand.
