My students are a diverse community of 4th and 5th graders who are natural born explorers, full of curiosity, and the desire to learn. They seem to have more questions that I sometimes know how to answer, especially since this will be my first year teaching both 4th and 5th graders science. I teach at a school that pushes for hands on learning, encourages students to ask questions and seek answers through their own independent or group research, and I want them to have access to the books and resources that can provide those answers. Being a second year teacher at a charter school in the Los Angeles area, there are obstacles when it comes to acquiring books for my classroom library, and educational DVDs. Much of my classroom books and DVDs have come out my pocket and generous donations from other teachers. This year, I am trying to use creative ways to get the resources and materials my students need for optimal achievement.
