We are a STEAM magnet & have a diverse population with many Hispanic & Haitian students & large number of English language learners. Hands on real world experience is essential for all students but critical for communicating concepts to ELLs. We are a title 1 school,more than 85% of my students come from low, underprivileged socioeconomic homes. Although my students are frequent witness to tragedy & ills of society surrounding them in their neighborhoods, their strength & desire to persevere & overcome inspires me daily. They deserve a world class education with the best tools and resources we can give them. My passion is science & I feel it is imperative to create situations where all students, particularly females and minorities, can envision themselves in science related careers so it is imperative I give them experiences which bring scienctific tools, resources, and real world techniques into the classroom.
