My students are 3 and 4 years old. To come to the class virtually with a smile on their sweet face will lighten anyone's day. You would never guess that they are English Language Learners and that their parents struggle daily. They listen attentively along with their parents and are so eager to learn. When I encourage them to learn with the simplest reward, they turn to their parent with disbelief. Each child will learn to earn their reward. Because the parents are so limited and can't buy them little toys, these students are so eager to earn one, that they beg their parents to help them learn to earn a reward.
HUNNY does not give out rewards. They have to work hard to earn rewards by singing and reciting the alphabet, by recognizing the lower and uppercase letters and their sounds. In math they will earn a reward by counting, number recognition, quantifying, sorting, and making patterns.
Teachers bring me their kid's old toys and stuffed animals and I wash and sanitize them. My students love them but I believe in my heart that our kids deserve new rewards. I know that with these new rewards my students with work even harder to learn English and all the academic objectives to become successful and ready for kindergarten.
