Each year, eighty to ninety sixth graders pass through my classroom at a K-6 public school in Southern California. Our students are from many cultures and different neighborhoods within our city, but their desire to learn is one thing they all have in common. They come in to Science and History class each day, eager to learn no matter the daily topic. Lab days, when we perform experiments or build models, seem to be the most popular across the grade level.
