Flexible seating provides students a choice in the classroom on what is most comfortable for them to learn. Students' social emotional needs are higher due to living through the pandemic. As a result, ensuring students feel comfortable and safe while learning at school is very important. At home, they have many areas to choose from to engage in virtual learning. The areas are more limited at school.
My students require frequent movement to stay focused throughout the school day. Most of my students have ADHD and/or anxiety. I find throughout the day I'm telling students to be careful leaning back in their chairs. While also trying to provide them time to walk and move around the classroom. Fidgets and flexible seating like the wobble chair and balance balls help them meet their sensory needs while also increasing their focus.
