We will SHINE in our seats on the carpet! SHINE stands for Sit up tall. Hands in your lap. In your spot. Noise level 0. Eyes on the speaker. In first grade we spend a lot of time meeting on the floor for calendar, read aloud, independent reading, group instruction, small group instruction, and independent work. It's hard for us to get comfortable. If you're not comfortable, it's harder to concentrate and harder to learn. We would use this carpet in the front of our room to help build a sense of community and provide an inviting spot for learners to meet and work. The individualized spots on the carpet will help us stay organized and help prevent behavior issues.
The carpet meeting spot is where we come together as a classroom community and where the learning starts! With a bright, colorful carpet we will have a place of our own to work together and learn from each other. It will help build a sense of togetherness and community. Our classroom family will have a place of their own to explore, learn, and grow. We are excited for the magical ride of first grade!
