Our school does not ask students to bring school supplies with them on the first day because of the common economic standing of the families. With that choice, by the school, difficult decisions on what each classroom needs and what things to go without have to be made. This usually means classrooms go without large items like rugs and flexible seating.
Each student knows how much we truly love them and feels safe with us. When in my classroom, they're focused on ELD, science or social studies. It can be difficult to bring these subjects to life. Through trial and error, class discussions and even some sad days, we have grown to learn more and more about the world around us! These children deserve the world including adequate space in a classroom with 30+ students. They also deserve to be seen as the amazing, insightful, knowledgable, and determined students they are! I want to make that happen.
