My ultimate goal for this project is to create a classroom environment that fosters community, creativity (even in math class), and tactile learning opportunities for all of my students. The clipboards I have requested will allow my students and me to utilize a flexible seating arrangement during instruction. Flexible seating will allow us to be more spontaneous in the grouping of students, which will help foster a larger sense of community within the classroom.
Interactive notebooks provide an effective medium that fosters student ownership in the learning process. The supplies I have requested will allow each student to have their own set of notebooking supplies. Individual supply sets will allow us to utilize our classroom time more effectively and give the students options to customize their entries. Additionally, the colored paper and Post-it notes will allow the students to create engaging, foldable entries in their notebooks.
I have carefully curated the requested supplies to meet the anticipated needs of my students. Serving in a high-poverty neighborhood limits the amount of monetary support I receive directly from the families of my students. The items I am asking for will help ensure a solid foundation is created for the kinesthetic and creative environment I hope to create in my classroom. I believe if we can create a community of students invested in their learning, regardless of their individual circumstances, we will see more students move out the cycle of poverty and into a cycle of achievement.
