Hello! My name is Alaina Perez and I teach 8th grade Language Arts.
My classroom is a place where students feel their voice is valued. I encourage a culture of respect and curiosity where students see themselves and each other as academic resources. I am adept at using grouping strategies to help students build collaborative and empathetic skillsets. I believe the ability to work with and learn from others is critical for success as a human being. My role as an educator has always been one of a guide and mentor rather than a hierarchically advantaged and irrevocably positioned source of knowledge. I enjoy connecting with my students as they are; complex, interesting, and irreplaceable.
