I have my sixth graders as an elective course for one period everyday. They were so excited when I mentioned that the class was on Greek Mythology and that we would be reading novels related to Greek Mythology. They surprise me everyday with information that they already know about the subject or learned for themselves and their ability to grasp what we are discussing or reading is wonderful. They really want to read a current novel and know what the references to Greek mythology are. Unfortunately, the budget crisis has hit the school they attend and there is no way to provide the students with this learning opportunity.
