As a teacher of students with moderate to severe disabilities, I have encountered many students that due to their disability have not been exposed to many daily activities that we normally take for granted.
My goal is to have students explore and enjoy every moment of their lives. This is accomplished by exposing them to, and providing them with, activities that create independence. One of the main skills to learn is how to prepare basic meals for themselves in case of an emergency.
Having a refrigerator, a blender, a toaster oven an a microwave in the classroom, students will learn how to make easy recipes. Not only will my students learn how to make meals, but they will also learn how to create a shopping list, check for the best prices, practice money skills and learn how to navigate their community. By choosing to help our classroom you will be setting my students to succeed not only academically but in life.
