I want to offer my students the comforts of "home" at school. I know that they often feel like they don't belong to any person or any place, and I see how much joy it gives them to have a living space in my classroom where they can sit down with a juice and a snack as they study for tests or complete projects that they wouldn't normally have access to supplies for.
My students are the most at-risk, often coming from group homes, shelters, or foster care where they are often unable to get basic needs met.
Things like oatmeal, mac and cheese, and Gatorade, will fuel them and encourage them to come to school, and stay there for instruction time.
Having supplies handy for them such as pencils, notebooks, and highlighters will help them feel prepared for class and not have to worry about how they will get their school supplies.
