These high-interest books will enhance my classroom library. Every book that is placed in my library is chosen with my students in mind. For all but one title, I requested four copies of each book in order to conduct literature circles where students have the opportunity to talk about books with their peers. Through these conversations, my students will enrich their listening and speaking skills as well as their understanding of books. (I also requested a class set of one title as I would like the whole class to read it together while I model and teach reading skills to be implemented in literature circles.)
When students are given the opportunity to choose books which interest them, they are more likely to stay engaged which will help them continue to enjoy independent reading.
With these new books, my students will be able to choose from a variety of high-interest novels that they can talk about with their friends. What better hook is there for a middle school student?
The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading.
