My students have inspired me to request coding materials for our Gifted and Talented classroom. They are constantly asking for lessons geared towards coding and programming.
When students learn to code, they attain greater problem-solving, algorithmic, and analytical skills. Coding also encourages students to be creative and use their imaginations. If a student's product does not meet his/her expectations the first time, he/she will persevere until the desired product is created. Most importantly, coding allows students to learn skills that are necessary for our technologically-driven future. Occupations that require coding skills are growing at an incredibly fast pace.
I chose the Kano system because of its simplicity. I teach students from 4th-8th grade. Kano claims to be a program suitable for beginners and professionals. With the Kano materials, I can reach students at every level. Students will be able to learn at a comfortable pace.
I also chose Kano because it teaches students real coding languages, such as, Python, Javascript, and Unix. These languages are used by programmers across the world.
