My students will benefit from these Lego Mindstorms EV3 robotics kits because they will be challenged to work in teams to plan, engineer and build robots to specifications. They will also learn to code to process various robotic features that make them work. My past experiences teaching gifted resource enrichment classes indicate programs like this can change a child's future by inspiring them to become engineers, inventors or scientists. Providing these types of lessons and activities to create robots with parts in a kit and use coding to make them work is a perfect way to get a head start. Our school mascot is the 'bear' hence the 'Botbears' title. I would also like to offer 'Botbears: Robotics in Action' as an after school club for those that don't attend the gifted resource classes. With coding now being an accepted class for a foreign language college pre-requisite class, middle and high schools have expanded their coding class program options. I hope to pave the way to higher level classes for these students in middle and high school.
