It has been shown that students who feel emotionally supported and connected to their school are more likely to succeed academically. Since returning to in-person learning, the counseling department has noticed that students are struggling to connect with their peers. Our students will be able to utilize the materials requested to feel more connected to the school and their peers.
With this project, we hope to create a safe space for our students to develop organic relationships with others.
Students are currently invited to come to this space during lunch for Lunch Bunch and during small group lessons. Right now our room has little material for students to utilize and it is not very welcoming. As stated above, connectedness is an important factor in the success of young minds. The beanbag chairs, rug, lamps, and twinkle lights that have been requested will help make our space more inviting and comfortable for students to feel that they are in a safe space to be themselves (PS:A1.7). The games requested will help our students build positive relationships with their peers and adults who join us. The games will also allow students to make new friends (B-SS 2, B-SS 3,B-SS 9). Fidget toys have been a huge hit in the past with our students. Fidget toys have been a great way for students to have difficult conversations and are a great tool in developing effective coping skills (B-SMS 7). Our students will be incredibly grateful for a space that helps them feel a sense of normalcy since returning to in person learning. By funding our project, you will contribute to creating this calm and inviting ambiance for students to enjoy and be excited about.
